History

Grovewood Village is housed in the historic weaving and woodworking complex of Biltmore Industries, located adjacent to The Omni Grove Park Inn in North Asheville. In the early 1900s, Biltmore Estate Industries was a bustling craft enterprise that produced some of the highest quality homespun fabric in the country. The property, with its six cottages built from 1917 – 1924, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, Grovewood Village pays homage to the Biltmore business with its North Carolina Homespun Museum. The Museum presents a historical overview of the Industries and showcases an antique 4-harness loom and other memorabilia.

Exhibits

From furniture and lighting to jewelry and ceramics, Grovewood Gallery showcases a wide range of fine American art and craft. In addition to its many collections, Grovewood is home to Asheville’s only Antique Car Museum, the Golden Fleece Restaurant, 9 working artist studios, and an outdoor sculpture garden. It even has a sister gallery called Gallery of the Mountains. Located just across the street, Gallery of the Mountains features over 100 local and regional artists of the Southern Appalachians.

Events

Grovewood Gallery hosts a myriad of special events throughout the year. If visiting in the winter, check out the annual “Vessels of Merriment” event in November and December. This intoxicating exhibition features handmade drinking vessels made by ceramic artists from around the country. You’ll see beer steins, growlers, moonshine jugs, porcelain sake sets, and more! Vessels of Merriment kicks off with a fun opening reception where viewers can meet some of the participating artists and enjoy wine and local craft beer. Check the gallery’s event calendar for details.
