History of Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards
Alan Ward is a graduate of California Polytechnic University with more than 14 years of wine production experience. Originally from Sonoma, California, Ward heard a speaker at a conference say that it would be impossible to grow world-class wine grapes in North Carolina. He immediately set out to prove the speaker wrong.
After five years of research and experimentation, Alan Ward opened Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards on August 5, 2012. He is now known as the modern-day pioneer of winemaking in Henderson County.
Winery and Tasting Room
The Saint Paul Mountain Winery and tasting room is located Chestnut Gap Road, next to the house where Ward grew up and across the road from his grandfather’s farm. The walnut bar, indoor seating, and outdoor patio are just a few steps from five acres of grapevines. Guests can enjoy wine tastings each day and a variety of live music events throughout the year. Check out the winery’s Calendar of Events for details.
