How to Prepare for the Asheville Marathon
The Asheville Marathon, which has been voted best weekend experience, returns for another year this spring at the Biltmore Estate. If you’re interested in participating in this year’s race, discover everything you need to know about the Asheville Marathon below, and then start planning your trip!
General Race Information
The 2020 Asheville Marathon takes place Saturday, March 21st and Sunday, March 22nd at the Biltmore Estate.
There are five race event options:
- Asheville Half Marathon on Saturday
- Asheville Half Marathon on Sunday
- Asheville Marathon on Sunday
- Backyard to Vineyard Challenge (Half Marathon on Saturday + Marathon on Sunday)
- Backyard to Backyard Challenge (Half Marathon on Saturday + Half Marathon on Sunday)
How to Prepare for the Asheville Marathon and Half at Biltmore Estate
Prior to the Race
The first step in preparing for the marathon is to register, of course! Visit the Asheville Marathon and Half at Biltmore Estate sign up page to choose your race and secure your spot.
You’ve chosen your race and registered online, now it’s time to train! There are several training resources online that can guide you on how to successfully train for a marathon. The Beginner Half Marathon Training Tips by Runner’s World is a great place to start.
Your training will take you right up to race day, but it’s important to secure your accommodations early as they tend to fill up quickly. Read more about staying at The Esmeralda Inn below or view all of our guest rooms and cabins and simply choose your favorite.
Prior to the race, be sure to familiarize yourself with the course description to find out important details regarding the course path, water stations, and more.
On Race Day
On the morning of race day, be sure to start with a healthy and delicious breakfast that will keep you fueled all day long.
The race begins several miles from the Biltmore Estate entrance, so you’ll need to plan to either drive or take a shuttle to the start line. Take a look at the directions and transportation page for more details.
The average weather in March in 59 degrees, but it will likely be chillier early in the morning. Dress in light layers and wear comfortable running shoes!
After the Race
After the race, you earned yourself a delicious and hearty meal. Luckily, Asheville is full of outstanding restaurants that are sure to not disappoint. If you’re staying at the Esmeralda Inn, we also have a fabulous onsite restaurant that’s open Tuesday through Saturday.
