The Flat Rock Playhouse, designated North Carolina's State Theatre, is located in the heart of the Historic Village of Flat Rock and is recognized nationally for its professional performing company and theatre training programs. The Playhouse season runs April through December. Past performances have included Broadway musicals, comedies, dramas and theatre for young audiences. Carl Sandburg, American poet, historian, author, and lecturer spent the final 22 years of his long and productive life at his estate, Connemara, in Flat Rock, NC. Today the Carl Sandburg Home NHS offers a keen insight on Mr. Sandburg, his family and their 264 acre working farm. Daily tours offered. There are numerous hiking trails and a functional goat barn. Free grounds access. Admission charged for house tour. Closed Christmas Day.
